We built two type of cases with LibMultiScale. The first type intend to test the influence of the coupling to the atomic domain. The other king is dedicated to the study of crack propagation.

First of all, we tried to reproduce on simple atomistic potentials the results given by S. Xiao in the original Bridging Method article. Those results was a 1 dimentional case where an initial wave was introduced with a given frequency. Then we let the the wave propagate through the bridging zone. As an objective measure, we plot the kinetic energy of the non coupled atomistic zone, checking the amount of energy reflected by the coupling.

On the cases we are demonstrating here, the waves were simple gaussian or modulated gaussian as presented on the figure above. The figure present short videos with different parameters such as finite element sizes.

The same type of tests has been made but in higher dimentions (2D, 3D).
Then we present the cases of crack propagation : video1, video2, video3
